Sheet metal does not forgive. Drag a 2 m × 4 m stainless plate across the floor and you pay twice—once for the scratch and once for the rework. Stack aluminium blanks three pallets high and the middle one creeps under its own weight. Herochu’s heavy-duty roll-out rack removes those hidden costs by giving every sheet its own drawer, every drawer its own fork pocket and every operator a clear line of sight to the job in hand.
The concept is simple: store flat, retrieve flat, never tilt, never slide. Each drawer rides on sealed bearings and extends 100 % like a bank-vault runner, so a single forklift driver can place or remove a 3 000 kg bundle in under thirty seconds without leaving the cab. The result is 80 % faster retrieval, 90 % less surface damage and 40 % more sheets in the same footprint—numbers we guarantee in writing because we have repeated them in 147 installations across Europe, North America and the Gulf.
Steel that refuses to sag
Uprights are cold-formed from S355 JR, 8 mm web, 450 mm deep, laser-cut on a 4 kW fibre source for ±0.2 mm repeatability. Drawer frames are 200 mm × 80 mm box-section, fully welded, stress-relieved at 600 °C to eliminate memory. Runners are induction-hardened 45# steel, 25 mm diameter, ground to h6 tolerance and plated with 12 µm hard chrome. Rated cycle life: 50 000 full extensions at rated load—equivalent to one pull every working hour for twenty-five years.

Safety engineered, not added later
Each drawer closes positively against a replaceable rubber stop; accidental roll-out is prevented by a double-acting spring latch that needs two deliberate motions to release. Fork pockets are 200 mm wide × 80 mm high, chamfered 30° to guide tines first time, every time. A 1 200 mm high rear guard stops sheets from drifting into the next aisle; optional mesh side panels contain small off-cuts. Powder coat is RAL 5017 traffic blue as standard, orange or grey on request, 80 µm minimum for UV and chemical resistance. Galvanised finish to EN ISO 1461 is available for outdoor yards—salt-spray tested 1 000 h neutral white rust.
Floor space audit you can take to the bank
A typical bay 5 m long × 1.2 m deep stores 72 t of 4 mm mild-steel plate in six drawers that occupy 6 m². The same stock on timber pallets would need 18 m² and a 4 m aisle on both sides. Factor in local rent at EUR 60/m²/year and the rack pays for itself in fourteen months on floor savings alone—before you count reduced scrap, faster set-up times and fewer back-injury claims.
Installation that respects production
Units arrive pre-assembled in sub-frames; only uprights need bolting to the floor. Anchor bolts M20 × 160 mm, chemical cartridge included. Torque value 340 Nm, printed on a label at eye level. Average build time for a six-level, six-drawer bay: 90 minutes with two men and a torque wrench. No welding, no hot-work permits, no grinding dust in your CNC air intake.
Compatibility with your existing trucks
Drawer height when closed: 320 mm. Open height: 50 mm above floor level so 1 000 mm tines slide under a 20 mm plate without ramps or timber. Clearance below first drawer: 110 mm—enough for pallet trucks or low-profile AGV forks. Optional laser pointer projects a red line across the drawer to show exact fork entry depth, eliminating trial-and-error and the dents that go with it.
Inventory visibility that ends the Friday hunt
Every drawer face accepts magnetic labels or barcode strips. QR code engraved on the latch cover links to a cloud spreadsheet pre-loaded with grade, thickness, heat number and remnant size. Scan with a phone and the system tells you which drawer, which row, how many sheets left—no walking, no climbing, no clipboard.
